The article consists of the dried root and rhizome of Piper methysticum G. Forst. (Family Piperaceae). It contains NLT 4.5% of kavalactones, calculated as the sum of methysticin, dihydromethysticin, kawain, dihydrokawain, yangonin, and desmethoxyyangonin on the dried basis.
